You have a ton of users on your site, but can you easily distinguish between the legitimate ones and the fraudsters?

Sift Science’s new Device Fingerprinting product allows you to identify your site’s users by device and easily tell the good from the bad.

What is Device Fingerprinting?

When you use Sift Science Device Fingerprinting, we assign a unique identifier to each device used to access your site. With the Device Fingerprinting API, you can easily view the history associated with a particular device and use that data to inform what action you want your business to take for a given user.

If a device has browsed your site before, we’ll tell you about its previous sessions and whether you determined it to be associated with a bad (or good) user.

First time that device has visited your site? Not a problem; you can still see a device’s Sift Score even if it’s completely new to you. Our Device Fingerprinting product uses the power of Sift Science’s extensive global network to determine the riskiness of a device. We’ll reveal if other members of the Sift Science network have seen this device before and also tell you how likely it is to be associated with fraud.

How can Device Fingerprinting help me?

Device Fingerprinting allows you to identify the users browsing your site at the device-level, giving you an immensely flexible and powerful tool to streamline your customer experience.

Stopping known fraudsters

You can now blacklist devices linked to chargebacks or spammy postings and prevent those users from accessing your site or completing transactions.

Whitelisting good customers

Device Fingerprinting isn’t only for stopping fraud – you can also use it to improve customer engagement. If you have a set of trusted repeat customers, you can consider whitelisting them to ensure their orders always get processed fast and consistently have an exceptional experiences with your business!

Managing Friction and User Experience

With Device Fingerprinting, you can also build in or remove additional security layers in order to manage legitimate or fraudulent user activity. Seeing the past fraud associated with a given device allows you the option to increase or decrease friction for users based on their riskiness.

For example, for suspicious users, you could require email verification or additional security questions before checkout. For known good users, on the other hand, you could not require CVV verification during the transaction to reduce the roadblocks to purchase.
